2015 Change Gears: Ride a Bike
Ride for Your Health
Come participate in the sixth annual community bike event to promote physical activity and use of the T.J. Evans, Panhandle and other trails in Licking County. The event will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2015. There will be distance rides, a bike skills rodeo and healthy snacks. Everyone is invited to participate, including families and long-distance bikers. There is no cost to join in the fun. Donations to sustain this event will be accepted at the event.
*Note: Due to online registration restrictions, please call (740) 349-6535 if you are registering for more than 3 people.
There will be 3 check-in locations again this year!
1. Newark: at the Newark campus of Central Ohio Technical College and the Ohio State University at Newark - adjacent to the bike trail.
2. Johnstown: at the west end of the T.J. Evans Trail (at the end of Jersey Street).
3. Hanover: at Marne United Methodist Church - adjacent to the bike trail. More family friendly - less traffic and hills.
Check-in will begin at 8:00am and staff will remain on-site until noon. This event is an open ride so participants can begin at their discretion and ride at their own pace. It is possible to ride (almost) county line to county line. Time durations for rides will vary depending on skill level, speed and weather.
Due to the flexible design, riders ride at their own risk. All bike riders will need to wear a bike helmet during the ride and bike skills rodeo. Helmets will be provided at no cost to those in need (while supplies last) at all three check-in locations. Please be aware, bike repair services will not be available, so come prepared.
Bike Skills Rodeo
There will be a bike skills rodeo throughout the morning at the OSU-Newark/COTC and Marne United Methodist Church locations. Participation will boost riders’ confidence and safety. All rodeo riders will receive a prize for participating.
Healthy snacks will be available at all check-in locations, while supplies last. Completing the free, on-line registration, at www.phplc.org, will help insure food will be available for all participants.
Event t-shirts are available for purchase. Please see below for t-shirt design. Cost = $10.00 donation to the Public Health Partnership of Licking County (PHP, Inc.). T-shirts can be ordered during online registration (through May 25) and will be available for pick-up at the event.
Online t-shirt orders are now closed.
We will also accept t-shirt orders at the event to be picked up at a later date. However, an order will only be placed if we have a minimum of 12 shirts.
If you have questions about the ride, please call the Licking County Health Department at (740) 349-6535, press 0 and ask for the Wellness Program.
