Change Gears Bike Ride Event - June 1, 2019

The 10th annual Change Gears bike event will be held Saturday, June 1st. Come enjoy a morning bike ride on the Licking County trails. You choose the distance! Everyone is invited to participate, including families and long-distance bikers. There is no cost to join in the fun!

Check-In

There will be 3 check-in locations again this year!

  1. Newark (Primary check-in): at the Newark campus of Central Ohio Technical College and the Ohio State University at Newark - adjacent to the bike trail.

  2. Johnstown: at the west end of the T.J. Evans Trail, near the end of Jersey Street.

  3. Hanover: at Marne United Methodist Church - adjacent to the bike trail. More family friendly with less traffic and hills.

Check-in will begin at 8:00 am and Health Department staff will remain at each check-in site until 12 Noon. This event is an open ride so participants can begin at their discretion and ride at their own pace. It is possible to ride (almost) county line to county line. Time duration for rides will vary depending on skill level, speed and weather.

Safety

Due to the flexible design, riders ride at their own risk. All bike riders will need to wear a bike helmet during the ride and bike skills rodeo. Helmets will be provided at no cost to those in need (while supplies last) at all three check-in locations. Please be aware, bike repair services will not be available, so come prepared.

Bike Skills Rodeo

There will be a bike skills rodeo throughout the morning at the OSU-Newark/COTC and Marne United Methodist Church locations. Participation will boost riders’ confidence and safety. All rodeo riders will receive a prize for participating.

Snacks

Healthy snacks will be available at all check-in locations, while supplies last. Completing the free, on-line registration (left side of the page) will help insure food will be available for all participants.

Event T-shirts

T-shirts promoting bike riding are available.

Cost per shirt is a $12.00 donation to the Public Health Partnership of Licking County (PHP, Inc.).  T-shirts can be ordered during online registration for event pick-up (through May 19th). Only on-line payment is accepted.
